Can you remember the creaks in the stairs?
The love ever-present, the laughter we shared?
Hiding a candy cane back of the tree,
Oh, yesterday, why’d you touch me, then leave me?

Remember those stormy nights down on the porch,
Winters that blistered, summers that scorched,
The lumpy old couch that held four comfortably,
Oh, yesterday, why’d you leave me so empty?

Tomorrow’s come quicker than I thought it would
I’ve learned to live with the changes.
But the sweetness of yesterday still lingers on.
Funny how life rearranges.

Breakfast on Sundays, pancakes and eggs.
Those old kitchen chairs with the wobbly legs.
Remember those nights that we talked until dawn?
Oh, yesterday, I turned away once, then you were gone.

Tomorrow’s come quicker than I thought it would
I’ve learned to live with the changes.
But the sweetness of yesterday still lingers on.
Funny how life rearranges.

Remember the pictures that hung in the hall,
The constant complaining, "This house is too small".
Remember the family that we used to be?
Oh, yesterday, why’d you touch me, then leave me?
Why’d you leave me so empty?
Won’t you come back and take me?
